I crashed this summer and broke my collarbone, and totally smashed my head on my way down. About a third of my helmet on the left side was crushed and cracked. It's not a bad idea...
A couple years ago I caught the lip of the trail near downtown and flew over the bars, cracking my head on the street. Thankfully, the helmet took the force. I don't ride without a helmet.
